Computers: Pianos not Radios

I’ve been abusing my computer sets 1 by using them too much as consumption devices as opposed to tools for creation and critical thinking. Lately my collections of feeds and streams have become like TV stations. It’s even worse than TV because I play a larger role in programming the content so to speak. It’s more addictive because I’m choosing which signals to tune to. And while there’s a smorgasbord of information and interestingness, it’s too much. I need to change up my habits. I should aim to pull down only what’s relevant to the task at hand, and force everything into a low information diet.

  1. [I like the phrase computing set or computer set over just computer because a (personal) computer as we know it is a device composed of many computers or processor elements.]
